Training Courses
SRS Training is now being hosted on Canvas Catalogue. Because of this, there are a few different steps a user will need to take to register for JOHSC, Administrator, LST or SharePoint training. Please see the instruction sheet by clicking here
JOHSC Fundamentals 1 & 2 – Training for New Members
All new members of a JOHSC are required to receive at least 8 hours of instruction and training as soon as practical, but no more than 6 months after being selected as a member of the JOHSC. (Note: Any new members that have been on a joint committee within the past 2 years and were previously trained in JOHSC Fundamentals Part 1 and 2, will not be required to re-take training). There are a limited numbers of new JOHSC members so training is only offered every 2nd month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov).
JOHSC Administrator Training
JOHSC Administrators play an important part in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC). This course will help you understand the importance of your role, provide you with tips and techniques for proper minute taking, familiarize you with CAIRS and SharePoint, as well as arm you with resources to help make your duties as efficient as possible.
Local Safety Team Training
The Local Safety Team (LST) Training consists of two parts. Both parts of the course must be completed for successful completion of the course. These two parts of the training will arm the LSTs with the knowledge to complete health and safety tasks in their respective areas.
- Part 1 is a 20min online module and will cover general information such as roles and responsibilities and safety team effectiveness. (Part 1 must be completed in advance of registering for the Part 2 practical).
- Part 2 of the LST training course will consist of 2 online sessions, Part 2A (Workplace Inspections) and Part 2B (Incident Investigations).

SharePoint Training
SharePoint is a tool to assist with the communication between the JOHSCs and LSTs. SharePoint provides a central location for all inspections and meeting minutes. It also is a means for LSTs to highlight items that they would like to have discussed by their JOHSC. This will enhance the collaboration on safety initiatives and provide visibility of the great work be done by our safety groups across campus.
This training is strongly recommended for JOHSC and LST Co-chairs and Administrators, but all interested committee/team members are welcome to attend.
If your JOHSC does not have their SharePoint site yet, you can still attend the training. To have your SharePoint site released to your JOHSC, contact Safety & Risk Services. Note: LSTs will be provided access to their SharePoint site by their respective JOHSC.
